How often should you clean your windows?

April 29, 2025

So, how often should you clean your windows? Well, everyone is different, and so the answer depends on the homeowner and their surroundings, and their requirements.

Some people want their homes to look at their best all year round; to have maximum curb appeal. Others believe there is no need for a window cleaning service because “that’s what the rain is for”. (Honestly, someone used those exact words to me😂)

But if you do want your windows to look their best and be protected, here are a few things to consider;

First – Our cleaning method

At Pure Water Window Cleaning we use the Pure Water window cleaning method. This means that we bring Purified Water (tap water that has been extensively filtered) to each clean. We use this water to clean the entirety of any window / door we are cleaning. This has real benefits because it allows us to remove all the dirt, pollen, pollution and grime from the entire window / door, protecting and maintaining them.

Interestingly, glass cleaned with Pure Water actually stays cleaner for longer! (A future blog on that coming soon)

Second – Our Window Cleaning interval options

At Pure Water Window Cleaning, we offer a regular 4 or 8 weekly cleaning service, and a one-off cleaning service. So you can choose to have your windows cleaned once every 4 weeks, once every 8 weeks, or, just once!

But how do you decide which window cleaning service to go for? Try answering the following questions to help you decide.

Third – Curb Appeal

Do I like my home to look at it’s very best all year-round?

If so, you might choose our regular 4 weekly window cleaning service. This is the perfect interval for maintaining beautifully clean windows.

But if you are happy to let a little longer elapse between cleans, then our 8 weekly window cleaning service would be perfect for you. With 8 weeks in between cleans this is still classed as a maintenance service, but an 8 weekly clean, strikes a great balance between maintaining clean windows while also being a cost effective option.

One-off window cleans are ideal for end of tenancy cleans, or if someone just wants help getting their windows up to scratch so they can then continue to maintain them themselves.

Fourth – Environmental factors matter

Do I live on a busy main road?

Is there a working farm close by my home?

Are there trees surrounding or overhanging my house?

Do I live near the coast?

If you answer yes to any of the above questions, then again you might choose a 4 weekly window cleaning service.

Homes near busy main roads definitely get dirtier quicker. Homes in the vicinity of farms are prone to getting a lot of unsightly fly droppings on the windows/doors.

Over-hanging trees drop their leaves and sap and twigs etc on to window frames, making the windows look like they need cleaning more quickly.

In coastal regions, it’s a good idea to protect windows/doors by washing off the salt regularly with a 4 weekly window cleaning service.

Fifth – Cost

Another factor is cost.

Here is an example of costs.

If your home costs £15.00 to clean on a 4-weekly basis, then it will cost £22.50 on an 8-weekly basis. And a one-off clean for the same house (which is 2.5 times the 4 weekly clean price) will cost £37.50.

8 weekly cleans take longer to clean, so they are more expensive than 4 weekly cleans, but still a very cost-effective option, because if averaged out, the 8 weekly clean is in effect costing £11.25 per month.

We can offer lower prices for the regular 4 or 8 weekly window cleaning service, because we require a minimum of 4 cleans before cancellation with our regular window cleaning service, with most of our customers staying with us for many years. Where-as the price for a one-off clean, needs to fully cover all the time involved in quoting for the service and booking the customer in to the round, we can’t gradually re-coup this cost over a number of cleans, as we can with our regular window cleaning service option.

So, it’s up to the customer whether they choose the 4 or 8 or one-off window cleaning service.

Which clean interval would you choose? – If you are still unsure, just drop us a message and we can offer some suggestions based on your home and needs.
